You can often redesign a website while keeping the same domain and business email. The important step is understanding which settings control the website and which control email before anyone makes changes. A redesign should have a connection plan, not a last-minute account scramble.
Map the accounts first
Identify the domain registrar, current website host, email provider, and person with permission to make changes. These may be different companies. Record the renewal dates and the owner of each account.
If you are unsure, ask the existing provider to explain the setup before the redesign begins. Avoid canceling services simply because their names sound related to the old website. An account may also be responsible for something your business still uses.
Protect the customer journey
Keeping the domain is useful, but existing page addresses matter too. Customers may have bookmarked a service page. Other websites may link to it. Google's site-move guidance recommends mapping old URLs to their appropriate replacements when addresses change.
Create a list of important pages before rebuilding. Preserve their addresses where practical, or arrange suitable redirects. Do not send every old page to the homepage if a relevant replacement exists.
Make the launch checklist specific
- Record the current settings before changing them. - Confirm which website records need updating. - Preserve email-related records unless an email migration is planned. - Test incoming and outgoing business email after launch. - Test forms, booking links, and key old page addresses.
A hypothetical contractor may rely on estimate requests arriving at one shared mailbox. The redesign is not complete until a test inquiry reaches that mailbox and the person responsible can see it.
Plan the handover
Ask who will make the connection, who will check the result, and how to reach them if something behaves unexpectedly. Keep the previous arrangement available until the team confirms the new site works and explains what can safely end.
Tell your ZING advisor at the beginning that you want to retain your domain and email. Bring the account details through the approved access process. A careful handover can preserve the familiar address customers already know while giving the business a much better website behind it.
